FlatPack is an automated paper-based wrapping solution for furniture panels, designed as a primary packaging system to replace plastic packaging in industrial production environments.
Developed in collaboration with a leading global furniture manufacturer, FlatPack combines sustainability with industrial performance, enabling manufacturers to reduce plastic use without compromising efficiency, packaging reliability, or operational continuity. Built on Sitma’s established expertise in paper-based packaging, the system has been engineered to meet the specific requirements of furniture manufacturing and distribution.
FlatPack is a fully automated system designed to manage the complete packaging workflow, from product loading to final output. Through integrated automation, FlatPack manages not only the wrapping phase but also complementary operations such as the insertion of instruction manuals and printed materials, as well as the integration of hardware toolboxes and assembly kits. This ensures that all components are accurately positioned and contained within a single compact package, improving workflow efficiency and packaging consistency.
Core system modules include:
FlatPack has been specifically developed to perform across the entire supply chain, from production to retail environments. It ensures reliable product protection during storage, transport, and in-store handling, while maintaining a clean and consistent appearance.
The compact and stable geometry of the packs, achieved through fit-to-size continuous motion primary packaging and inward-folded wrapping, supports efficient palletization and optimized use of space during transportation and warehousing. By avoiding unnecessary external dimensions, the system enables better space utilization and consistent handling performance across different logistics conditions.
Controlled adhesive application ensures secure sealing, while consistent packaging integrity is maintained even over extended storage periods.
Precision engineering allows FlatPack to operate at industrially viable production speeds while maintaining tight tolerances, ensuring each package remains compact, stable, and reliable throughout its lifecycle.
FlatPack is designed with flexibility and scalability in mind. It can adapt to different panel sizes and formats and is ready for integration with automated upstream and downstream systems.
Applicable across multiple industries handling flat or bulky products, FlatPack extends beyond furniture panels to offer a versatile platform for next-generation packaging solutions.
“FlatPack represents a major step forward in combining sustainability with industrial performance,” said Stefano De Marco, CEO of Tecnau and Sitma. “With this solution, we enable manufacturers to eliminate plastic from primary packaging while maintaining the efficiency, protection, and scalability required in modern production and logistics environments. It reflects our commitment to delivering tangible, production-ready innovations that support our customers’ transition towards more sustainable operations.”
