FlatPack is an automated paper-based wrapping solution for furniture panels, designed as a primary packaging system to replace plastic packaging in industrial production environments.

Developed in collaboration with a leading global furniture manufacturer, FlatPack combines sustainability with industrial performance, enabling manufacturers to reduce plastic use without compromising efficiency, packaging reliability, or operational continuity. Built on Sitma’s established expertise in paper-based packaging, the system has been engineered to meet the specific requirements of furniture manufacturing and distribution.

 

 

Advanced Automation and Process Integration

FlatPack is a fully automated system designed to manage the complete packaging workflow, from product loading to final output. Through integrated automation, FlatPack manages not only the wrapping phase but also complementary operations such as the insertion of instruction manuals and printed materials, as well as the integration of hardware toolboxes and assembly kits. This ensures that all components are accurately positioned and contained within a single compact package, improving workflow efficiency and packaging consistency.

Core system modules include:

  • Assisted Loading Station: electronic product position control for precise alignment and consistent feeding.
  • Document Insertion Feeder: automated integration of instruction manuals and leaflets, eliminating manual handling and ensuring consistent placement.
  • Box Dispensing System For Assembly Kits: individual loading of hardware toolboxes for accurate integration of components such as screws and fittings.
  • Fit-To-Size Continuous Motion Packaging: paper wrapping tailored to product dimensions, delivering compact and secure packs with inward-folded edges for space optimization and transport stability.
  • Optional Labeler And Paper Printer: supporting track-and-trace functionality and branding, with the ability to print product information, recycling instructions, or marketing content directly on the packaging.

FlatPack has been specifically developed to perform across the entire supply chain, from production to retail environments. It ensures reliable product protection during storage, transport, and in-store handling, while maintaining a clean and consistent appearance.

The compact and stable geometry of the packs, achieved through fit-to-size continuous motion primary packaging and inward-folded wrapping, supports efficient palletization and optimized use of space during transportation and warehousing. By avoiding unnecessary external dimensions, the system enables better space utilization and consistent handling performance across different logistics conditions.

Controlled adhesive application ensures secure sealing, while consistent packaging integrity is maintained even over extended storage periods.
